THE SHAPE SHIFTER
LIGHTWEIGHT AND VERSATILE CRAG BAG
Boulderalls
Research
There are many styles of rope bags available on the market. Features of some bags include an integrated tarp and backpack straps.
The Problem
Most rope bags do not have room for both a rope and gear, making it necessary to bring either a very large bag, or multiple bags to the crag. Most climbing bags that have room for gear and a rope are not very lightweight, versatile, or compactable.

Inspiration
Ideation
I started by defining the framework and essential criteria of my project. My main goal was to create a lightweight backpack that contained an integrated tarp and provided enough room for all the necessary gear. From there I sketched out different ideas before I settled on my final design.
Prototype and Testing
my next step was creating and testing a prototype. While I was happy with many aspects of the design, I realized I needed to make some adjustments to improve the overall design. I decided to make the bag bigger, cushion the straps, and add a hip belt.

Final Product
The Shape Shifter is the perfect bag for carrying your gear to the crag. With an integrated tarp and expandable capacity it is perfect for any climbing trip.
Product Features
Never forget your tarp again with the Shape Shifter innovative integrated tarp system.
The Shape Shifter is designed to hold as little as a 35m rope, or as much gear as you need for the day at the crag.
The straps are cushioned with foam to keep you comfortable on the approach.
Thanks to the coated ripstop nylon material, the bag is very water resistant.
The lightweight fabric makes the bag very compactable, rolling up to about the size of a Nalgene.
